Luke Thomas Henderson, age 35
Luke has been a sailing enthusiast beginning in the days of his early childhood. He spent his childhood summers racing Sunfish in Skytop, PA.
While his seven years as a Specialist at the NYSE, first at Henderson Brothers where he was made partner, followed by a stint as Managing Director at LaBranche, may have temporarily kept him from sailing more than he would have liked, he still was able to find time to pursue this passion.
In the 2003 season he raced shields class out of Larchmont Yacht Club. The following summer in 2004 he traveled 40 days around the Fijian island navigating coral reefs. Later that season he traveled 2,300 in an offshore passage from the Solomon Islands to Darwin, Australia.
Luke is the proud owner of the Shangri-La and loves the self-sufficiency of offshore sailing. He strives to live his life with the following Emerson thought in mind, "It is easy in the world to live after the worlds opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of a crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude."
